OK - my profile is updated.

I am concerned though that in order to register, it's essential to submit address details. Whilst I appreciate that this is necessary for the administration of the club, I don't think that it's great security to have it saved within the forum database.

It's not inconceivable that someone determined enough could access the webserver where this forum is hosted, and then download a copy of the mysql database, and thus having details of where every member lives.

Regards,

If the scum bags know and want what you have got they will try anf get it so all we can do is make it harder for them. Try not to "Advertise" your bike if you can help it( put it in your car not on the back or roof) 8-)
The biggest thing we all need to do is make sure that you have insurance that covers the value of the bike. :D

I would recommend visiting www.soldsecure.com to view locks which have been attack tested and then rated from bronze to gold. There are not any pedal cycle locks that are rated higher than silver. However there are some gold rated motorcycle locks (a bit heavy to carry).

I agree that two or more locks is the ideal way to go. The way you lock your bike is crucial:

Lock the rear and front wheels putting the lock through the wheel, frame and stand (or archor object). This prevents bottle-jacking.

Position the key hole facing towards the ground or wall.

Don't let the lock or chain touch the ground (this will allow the ground to be used as a lever or striking point.

Hope this helps.

Its not inconceivable that someone could hack into your bank account, your amazon account or that a dopey civil servant leaves your personal data on a train.. however it is unlikely. That is the world we now live in, and unfortunately there's no getting away from it
